UNDP in collaboration with Government of Pakistan and the Royal Netherlands Embassy has launched the sub program “Policy Coordination and Environmental Governance NEAP Support Program.” Under this sub program the Project “Establishment of National Environmental Information Management System (NEIMS)” has been initiated at the Ministry of Environment Pakistan. The key objective of NEIMS is to facilitate informed decisions for policy formulation and development planning through an

Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) covering all possible dimensions of environment. The specific objectives are as follows:

1. To review and analyze the current situation of environmental data/information management in Pakistan.

2. To establish an appropriate institutional and technical framework for NEIMS Pakistan.

3. To develop sector specific and inter sectoral database of environmental information in the country.

4.To establish functional National Environmental Information System.

5.To build and strengthen the capacities of key organizations involved in establishment and sustainable operation of NEIMS.
